Answer
Use the “Shift key scheduling method” if you want to schedule a work order to fill up an entire shift. You can also perform the same action for work blocks that have already been scheduled on a line.
When you use this scheduling method, help-text will appear as a friendly reminder that you can hold down the Shift key on your keyboard.
Using the Shift key method:
- To schedule a work order to take as much time as required on a work shift, hold the Shift key down and drag the work order over to the specific work shift on the schedule.
- To schedule an existing work block to take as much time as required on a shift, hold the Shift key down and click on the existing work block. Upon doing so, a green bar will appear behind the work block and fill up any available time on a shift. Then, drag the work block over to a specific work shift on the schedule.
Example of a situation where you might reschedule a work block to fill an entire shift
A customer sends a work order request asking you to produce 50 cases of toothpaste. You accept this work order request and schedule it on Line 1 from 6AM to 9AM.
A few hours later, the same customer informs you that there was a mistake and they actually want 250 cases of toothpaste, not 50 cases. Then, you add an extra 200 cases to the work order. With this new information, you realize production will need to be scheduled for at least the remainder of the existing work shift so you use the Shift key method to expand the existing work block.
