Answer
Line efficiency is typically determined by taking into account the historical performance of the line and the amount of time that production is running on the line. When creating a line in Production Scheduling, you will need to enter line efficiency in the field called “Efficiency” on the "Manage lines" page.
Entering a line efficiency will affect the expected production rate of the item that is scheduled to be produced at the line. The expected production rate of an item is determined by multiplying the item’s standard production rate, which is entered in the items import file, and the length of time that has been scheduled on the work block.
Example to describe line efficiency at your facility
Based on your facility’s historical data of line efficiency, you may know certain factors about a line. For example, Line 1 tends to run at 75% efficiency because 25% of the production time is dedicated to cleaning the machine. By reviewing the line's historical data on efficiency and the item’s standard production rate, you can determine the expected quantity of production that will likely be completed on the work block.
Best Practice Tip!
Having 100% efficiency means that workers or machines, scheduled to work at the line, are producing units at the same rate of the item’s standard rate of production. Since we should take into account interruptions to production, such as repairing equipment, it is more realistic to set line efficiency to 90%.
